Day 01 Kayaking the Nam Ou River and Whiskey Village visit (L)

High water season, August to January:

We start with a drive north of Luang Prabang along the Mekong River and finally up the Nam Ou River to the Lao village of Ban Khonekham. We kayak through spectacular mountains covered with jungle and inhabited by Tai Lu, and Lao Loum in traditional riverside villages.

Water conditions vary widely with the season and water levels. Generally, you can expect approximately 6-7 hours of kayaking down the river. It is suitable for confident swimmers with some experience kayaking. The total kayaking distance is 21 km and often you will see local people fishing along the Nam Ou River.

Experience a delightful packed lunch on the riverbanks while enjoying the beautiful jungle scenery. Kayaking will end at Ban Pak Ou, and we’ll conclude the day with a visit to the "Whiskey Village," a famous Mekong Riverside village known for its rice whiskey. We'll drive back to Luang Prabang in the mid-afternoon.

Low water season, February to July:

In the dry season, the itinerary is the same however there can be more exposed rocks and slightly more challenging—great fun for everyone.
